WoW: Returning Heroes, kinda

Posted in on September 1st, 2007

We returned to WoW with a bang, last night, playing our level 44 Hordes. We haven’t played in six months so Mark suggested we start with Scarlet Monastery, which is a little below us. It was a good idea as we needed practice with room for error. We were never at risk, but we did have some extended, interesting fights. Fighting the boss was kind of funny. It was surprisingly easy. It was a joy to practice our small group tactics again

There is a small part of grouping that I love. It’s the process of thinking, what can I do to make this better? How can I improve what I’m doing? How do we kill faster, or smarter? How can I save mana, or when should I burn more mana. What are my group-mates about to do and how can I enhance their efforts? It’s an ongoing questioning of technique that I just love. I felt it first in EQ and it’s certainly a part of my WoW experience. Vanguard and LotRO, not so much. With those games it seemed like I was just watching for buttons to recycle so I could mash them again. Maybe I’m being too harsh on those games, but I reveled in the process, last night, for the first time in six months.
