WoW: I get majorly pwnd

Posted in on July 13th, 2006

I ran my first official battleground last night. Warsong Gulch I think it’s called. I used the 19 priest I’ve been building just for this. The group was mostly Rogues except for one Warrior and myself. Later we added another Priest but some of the Rogues dropped out.

It claimed to be a 10 vs. 10 person thing, I counted only 6 people on our side. Maybe there were other groups I didn’t know about. Somebody said we should stick together. That sounded like a good plan to me so I stuck together as best I could. The Alliance plan was to find and kill me. After a couple deaths I remembered fear, that gave me an 8 second reprieve.

I did the best I could, healing when I could, de-buffing when I could, wanding those with their back turned. When it was over, we’d lost. I died more than anybody else, 18 times.

It was kind of interesting, but I couldn’t find anything useful to do. The twink Warriors were taking me out in two or three hits. I don’t think even with twink, level 19, cloth gear I could change that.

I’ve got some honor points now. I’m not itching to go back.

WoW: Herod, we hardly knew ye

Our return to Scarlet Monastery for the boss Herod was unique only in how smooth it went. There was only one moment of excitement going in. While fighting a group of three, one ran and we picked up another two as adds. The runner went down and we had four with one sheeped. We stayed in control and won easily.

My big disappointment of the night was after the big fight with Herod. We huddled-up, ready for the AE fight when the little guys rush in. Mike and Mark needed a little healing so I tried, nothing happened. I tried again, nothing. I had no mana, pthhh. I decided to use dynamite on the mobs, but they were all dead. I missed the whole thing.

We all dinged 37, Mark picked up the Warrior Shoulders Herod drops along with a nice stamina ring earlier, I received a 12-slot bag and Mike got to hang out with Mark and me. We were all winners.

WoW: My weapon glows

My Priests enchanting is 225. Mark suggested I could enchant the same thing over and over, doah, that made things much quicker. I spend around 100 gold on components and I expect it to get worse. I have 1770 gold, but the more I accumulate the less I want to spend it.

I must now travel to Uldaman to train. Not my favorite zone, the graveyard is sooo far away. I don’t want to do it more than once. I need to stockpile everything required so I can stand next to her enchanting and training. Gathering the components may take some time as I’ve not even started the list. At 36 I’m not sure we could fight our way in to her anyway. Soon though.

WoW: I’ve got your LFG right here

Posted in on July 10th, 2006

Blizzard has added a “Looking for group” (LFG) channel which you automatically join when entering World of Warcraft. There is a message saying the LFG channel is not for general chat which should be directed elsewhere. An almost constant stream of non-LFG messages are followed by twice as many, “this channel is for LFG only” messages. It’s become quite the annoyance and I’ve quit the LFG channel.

For grins I created an Alliance toon on the same server this weekend. Their LFG channel is a barrage of non-LFG messages. I guess they gave up over there cause I saw no “take your non-LFG chat elsewhere” messages at all.

There was a lot of smack talk though. Somebody would say something then ten others would share their wit at the original messengers expense. That happens on horde side as well, but much less. I wonder if the population difference is the smack talk difference?

WoW: We do it old school

Monday, we popped back into the right side of Scarlet Monastery. We needed to kill Dog-boy for a quest Mark found and I wanted the stave the boss drops. Mike won the roll for it last time and I’ve been jealous ever since. The fight in was uneventful as we are all 36. What was difficult just a few weeks ago is trivial now. Unfortunately, the boss dropped a dagger. We’ll either do it again or I’ll give up the dream of that 2 handed stick.

Mark has heard if you kill the boss in the graveyard an invasion boss will pop. We decided to fight our way out and give that a try.

Mark pulled like a crazy man and we had to fight fours and fives on our way out. It was hectic and fun. We ran for it when we got near the court yard. There must have been 12 or more mobs on Mark when he went down. Mike and I were only a moment following. It was something to see and a good laugh.

Kill, kill, kill and the graveyard boss was down. Exiting the mausoleum, there was the invasion boss, level 36 elite, should be easy enough. After our second wipeout we realized he wasn’t the push over we’d expected.

As Mike’s Mage and Mark’s Warrior weren’t doing a very good job in the healing department I figured it was up to me. On the third try, I focused exclusively on keeping everybody alive. It worked much better. I don’t remember what he dropped, but I think it was something good.
