WoW: Walkabout

Posted in on May 7th, 2006

Mike’s Mage and my Priest needed a little experience to reach level 26. We went for a cruse Saturday ending up in Hillsbrad Fields doing Humans. It went well except for one run-away situation. There is a mini-fort, and I aggroed the whole center room. Luckily, our run-away skills are finely tuned. We escaped, barely, and even killed the last mob following us. We labeled it a complete success and moved on to new things.

New things turned out to be Azureload Mines to the south. It was a nice crawl, we even killed a couple named mobs. One, a 30 boss, called two friends but Mike sheeped one and we prevailed.

At level 26 my Priest received an upgrade heal over 15 seconds spell, Renew 4. It turns out, I’ve been using Renew 2, a level 14 spell, even though Renew 3 was in my book since level 20. Happily, no one knows I’ve been screwing up for six levels.

WoW: If it’s not broke, wait, it is broke

What do you do in WoW when your server is down all day? Well, nothing mostly. You pull up old alts, on other servers, you don’t remember ever playing. You lament that you don’t have an alternative game to play. You pull up your 60 hunter and work on getting his pet to 60.

That last one, the 60 hunter, was actually kind of fun for a while. I headed over to Winterspring to hunt those invisible cats in the north west corner. It’s usually not very crowded there as only a fool hunter would hunt level 60 invisible cats. A hunter is just the slickest soloer of them all. If they ever raise the cap to 70 I’ll probably go back to him.

I have a level 8 Druid on a pvp server. He had 1.50 silver and 1 light leather on him. I decided to see what my auction house (AH) skills could do. He now has over 10 silver and 5 stacks of light leather, all purchased from the AH. I’d call a 10 times increase a success. Sure, I could have gone out and made that kind of money the old fashion way, quests and killing, but that wasn’t the goal.

WoW: It’s Howdy Doody time

It’s been hard making the nine-hour transition from London to Alaska time. Plus I’ve got a cold, but I’m back and playing WoW. I finally canceled my EQII account by calling somebody I could barely hear. Odd I couldn’t accomplish it online when we couldn’t agree on where I was born, but, on the phone, the only question she asked was my station name.

I’m back in the get-rich-in-WoW game. I have a bit over 400 gold and somewhere over 100 in inventory. I’m spending the week purchasing stuff, at bargain prices, to sell this weekend. I hope to make a killing.

My Priest is making good money disenchanting items, purchased from the auction house, and selling the results. Enchantrix, which comes with Auctioneer, gives me a list of items I can purchase and make money this way. I try not to do too many at once, there must be some upper limit for the demand. I may have run into a limit, at 60, for my enchanting skill gained from disenchanting only. I should try to find some guide, as I know nothing about enchanting.

Mike, Mark and I made a run at Blackfathom Depths Monday. It’s been three weeks since we’d played last and I found it to be great fun. A good reminder of why I play this stuff. Our teamwork, honed by years of practice, is a beautiful thing. We had little risk, till the big room at the end, where we wiped out.

Now that I’ve gotten EQII canceled, I’m looking for another game to play. I see there is a 14-day free trial of City of Heroes. AO and Planetside can be played for free. EVE keeps calling me. So much fun to be had, decisions to be made.
