Ferentus: Something Different

Posted in on November 3rd, 2005

I’ve played a couple of hours of a game, in open beta, called Ferentus. I may have signed a non disclosure agreement so I probably shouldn’t say a whole bunch, but… I created an elf person who is a pet class of some kind. Right off, you get a little guy, or maybe it’s a lady, in a bubble that follows you around healing your wounds when you take damage. At level 5 you get an attack dog with 3 tentacles that look like back tails.

The problem with the dumb dog is that he doesn’t attack right away. Sure, you can right click on his attack button after you’ve double, or triple, left clicked on your target to engage your own attack, but that’s a lot of clicking. I switched back to the healing bubble after one level.

Continuing with my not saying much, unlike the current crop of games that have reduced or eliminated down time, Ferentus seems to embrace it. I haven’t decided if sitting speeds up health/mana regen.

Talk about a screw up. Turns out you need the Gahz’rilla quest before you can loot the whatsit to finish the carrot on a stick quest. Mike worked late so Mark and I decided to run over to Thousand Needles and see if he could finish the quest. Nope. The whole thing seemed screwy all along, having to kill him three times. Well, we were going in again anyway, so I guess no harm done, other than a big ass embarrassment. It’s not like I haven’t got enough to live down already. <sigh>

We headed back to Zul’Farrak last night to do Gahz’rilla again. It’s getting too easy now. It took an hour. We’ve got to do it one more time so we’ll all have the scale or what ever it is he drops. Afterwards, we decided to try the cave guy again. We haven’t attempted him in a couple of levels. We lost, twice. The second time we tried doing all the crocodiles first then him, but he has another wave of elite crocodiles and we fell apart about then.

The server had some major problems. Logging in took forever and when we returned from our second death we couldn’t get back into the instance. After a few minutes, we spontaneously resurrected outside, in the entrance. We were sitting there talking when we were zoned into the instance. That took so long, Mike called to talk about it. It took minutes again to get out of the instance. We camped in Gadgeztan.

I don’t know what we are going to do about the cave guy. Come back at 60 I guess.
