Movie: Stevie

Posted in on October 21st, 2005

I watched the DVD “Stevie” last night. The director, Steve James, was a Big Brother earlier in his life for a trouble young man, Stevie. Steve decided to go back ten years later and see how Stevie was doing. It’s not been good.

Stevie was raised, somewhat, by the most dysfunctional family you can imagine, plus every single foster home in southern Illinois. Beatings, sexual assault. How much does it take to ruin one boy? It’s the story of the making of a, small time, career criminal. Oddly, Stevie has attracted a few good people into his life. His first foster parents, his fiancé and even Steve and his wife. You’d think Stevie could stop the train wreck of his life, but that’s not really possible. Changing who you are is darn near impossible for any of us.

A very painful story to watch.

WoW: A Day Off

Mark and I took our Druid (12) and Shaman (11) and kicked some Barrens butt tonight. Course we died four times or so, so butts were kicked on both side. When Mark leads we play a little closer to the edge than when I do. We had a bunch of close calls. We were working around the Stagnant Oasis doing those turtle things. We didn’t really want the turtles, we were after toad stools, but the turtles didn’t seem to like us at all. Actually, I think they didn’t like Mark. They were just mad at me for hanging around with him. Turtles are 16 so we had to work for it. When we got adds it was just pure luck if we won. Ok, a little more than luck perhaps. We’ve been playing for years and years.

Tomorrow is fight night so we’ll probably be heading back to Zul Farrak. We are trying to get a carrot on a stick out of that instance. I’m not sure this is something grown men need to be doing.

WoW: Solo Hell

I took my 57 hunter out for a spin last night on the western slopes of Winterspring. I ran into six other hunters, in about that many minutes, working the same area. That’s a little crowded for my solo taste so I kept moving. While exploring, I found a break in the mountains and plunged on in looking for the new world. It was a bit too steep and I eventually fell to my death. On my return, as a wisp, I fell past my corps and ended up in the far north shores of Azshara.

The only graveyard, I know the location of, in Azshara is by the flight path at Talrendis Point. That’s a long run and I was thinking about taking the rez penalty at the graveyard the whole way. I haven’t used a graveyard angel for a rez since my run across the Wetlands at the young age of 4. What else could I do? Run all the way back to Winterspring not knowing if I could fall close enough to my corpse to rez? I took the angel rez and ended up back in Winterspring at the graveyard behind Everlook.

I now needed to repair as everything on me had taken a penalty. I was just running from one NPC to the next clicking them to see if they could repair my stuff. I guess I clicked on the wrong guy cause he and his buddies killed me before I could walk three steps.

On my return from the graveyard, I found a guy who could repair me, for 1 gold 57 silver, and camped. I didn’t play the hunter any more that night. It’s going to take a good long while to reach 58 at this rate.
